
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 22
(By Senators Caldwell, Anderson, Oliverio, Love, Ross, Rowe,
Redd, Facemyer, Minear, Deem, Boley, Hunter, Minard, Kessler,
Edgell, Fanning, Helmick, Prezioso, McCabe, Unger, bailey,
Snyder, Plymale, Bowman, Jackson, Sprouse, Craigo, Chafin,
Tomblin, Mr. President, and Wooton)
Congratulating the Mercer Christian Academy girls' basketball team
on winning the 2001 WVSSAC Girls' Class A championship.

Whereas, The Mercer Christian Academy girls' basketball team
had an exceptional season, which earned it the opportunity to
participate in the 2001 WVSSAC Girls' Class A championship
playoffs; and

Whereas, The Mercer Christian Academy girls' basketball team
participated in and won the 2001 WVSSAC Girls' Glass A championship
for the third consecutive year; and

Whereas, This outstanding team also won the WVSSAC Girls'
Class A championship in 1993, 1994 and 1996 and was the state
runner-up in 1997; and

Whereas, The Mercer Christian Academy girls' basketball team
is headed by Coach Rick Cook and Assistant Coach Sarah Wilkerson;
and

Whereas, The 2001 WVSSAC Girls' Class A champions are: Holly Gillespie, Heather Houghton, Amanda Heaton, Sarah Powell, Bethany
Wilkerson, Martha Wilkerson, Erika Lawrence, Jennifer Nofsinger,
Rachel Barker, Whitney Brookman, Brittany Cook and Audrey Schulte.
This outstanding team is to be commended on their athletic ability,
sportsmanship and team spirit; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby congratulates the Mercer Christian
Academy girls' basketball team on winning the 2001 WVSSAC Girls'
Class A championship; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate commends the Mercer
Christian Academy girls' basketball team on their third consecutive
championship win and their sixth championship win overall since
1993; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Coach Rick Cook, Assistant Coach Sarah
Wilkerson and the Mercer Christian Academy girls' basketball team.
